I'll Circle BackPrivacy Policy
I'll Circle Back (the "app") is made by Desert Gate Holdings ("we", "us"). Desert Gate Holdings is responsible for your information as described here. This policy explains what the app collects, where your information goes, and your choices.
The short version
- The app doesn't collect anything about you by default. There's no account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics.
- Your cases stay on your iPhone and in the storage you choose. We never receive them.
- If you use the optional AI add-on, the case's text is sent to Anthropic only when you tap, after you've seen exactly what will be sent. It's not stored on our server.
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
What the app collects
Nothing, by default. The app doesn't ask you to create an account, and it has no advertising, tracking or analytics. Everything you add to a case (photos, videos, scans, files, recordings, transcripts, emails, call logs, notes, reminders and the people involved) is stored by the app on your iPhone. We never receive your cases.
The app asks iOS for permission before it uses things like the camera, the microphone, your photos, notifications or Face ID, and uses them only for the feature you're using. You can change these permissions any time in your iPhone's Settings.
Where your cases are kept
The first time you open the app, you choose where your cases are kept. You can change this later in the app's Settings.
- iPhone + iCloud Drive. The app keeps a full copy of every case in your iCloud Drive. That copy is in your own Apple account, and Apple's terms and privacy policy apply to it. We can't see it. Hidden cases are kept in a part of the app's iCloud storage that the Files app doesn't show.
- iPhone + iPhone backup. Your cases are only on your iPhone, and they're included in your iCloud backup or computer backup.
- This iPhone only. Your cases are only on your iPhone, and they're left out of all backups. If you lose the phone, they're gone unless you've exported them.
When you export a case or all your cases, the .zip file goes wherever you choose to save or send it.
Transcription
Recordings are transcribed on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded to transcribe them.
Emails and letters you send
When you send an email from the app, it goes through Apple's Mail app from your own email account, to the people you choose. A copy of what you sent is saved to the case on your iPhone. We don't see it.
The AI add-on (optional)
The AI add-on is off unless you choose to use it. Here is what happens when you do.
- Only when you tap. Nothing is sent until you tap, after a screen shows you exactly what will be sent. You can choose to leave out names, phone numbers and email addresses.
- Text only. What's sent is the case's text: notes, emails, call logs, transcripts and dates. Photos, recordings and files are never sent.
- With the subscription. The text goes through our small relay server to Anthropic, which provides the AI. The relay checks your App Store subscription and records only how much the AI cost for each subscription each month. It doesn't store what you sent or what came back.
- With your own Anthropic API key. The text goes straight from your iPhone to Anthropic. Our server isn't involved. Your own agreement with Anthropic applies.
Anthropic receives the text under its commercial API terms. Anthropic doesn't use API data to train its models by default. Anthropic's own privacy policy describes how it handles what it receives.
Payments
Apple processes all payments for the AI subscription. We never see your payment details. To check that a subscription is active, our relay server uses Apple's record of the subscription.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking. It's served by Cloudflare, which handles the network requests needed to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse.
When you contact us
If you email us, we use your email address and what you wrote only to reply and help you. Please don't send us details of your cases unless you need to.
Sharing and selling
We don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or track you across other apps or websites. The only outside company that receives anything from the app is Anthropic, and only the text you choose to send to the AI add-on.
Security
You can lock the app with Face ID or your passcode, cover it in the app switcher, and hide cases. Reminders never show a hidden case's name. The app saves its files with iOS Data Protection, so iOS keeps them encrypted while your iPhone is locked. This works best when your iPhone has a passcode.
Your choices
- Use the app without the AI add-on. Everything else works without it.
- Choose or change where your cases are kept, in the app's Settings.
- Delete a case in the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stores on your iPhone. Copies in your iCloud Drive or backups are managed in your Apple account.
- Cancel the AI subscription any time in your Apple Account settings.
- Ask us any question about your information at privacy@illcircleback.com.
Children
The app isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date.
